2007 Tenuta San Mauro Barbaresco DOCG

on Mon, 01/19/2015 - 13:45

Italian wines are on my mind, and this week we have a beauty,

2007 Tenuta San Mauro Barbaresco DOCG.

About this wine:

Bright ruby red in color with intense aromas of red fruit, balsamic and baking spices, this wine is elegant. The palate is dry, very structured with flavors of redcurrant, black cherry, licorice and spice. Tannins are soft which makes it very easy to drink. Best to let the wine decant for a couple of hours, and then enjoy with hearty pasta dishes, roasts, braised meats and mature cheeses.

About the region and producer:

Barbaresco is a powerful red wine made from

Gorgo Custoza DOC

Gorgo Custoza DOC...Pinot Grigio's older sister

While Pinot Grigio is usually the go-to Italian white, if you are looking for something more interesting, with structure and complexity, Gorgo Custoza is the perfect choice. (If these two wines were girls in high school, they wouldn't be in the same clique!)

About this wine:

The deep straw yellow color is simply a pleasure to look at.  An inviting bouquet of floral, pear and citrus aromas lead to a palate that is dry, velvety smooth and well-balanced.

Moscato D'Asti 'Per Elisa'

on Fri, 01/02/2015 - 21:25

Just because New Year's Eve has passed, that's no reason to stop the bubbles.

Fragrant, lightly sweet and gently fizzy, Moscato D'Asti is produced in the Piemonte region of Italy. Ca' De Lion's 'Per Elisa' is produced in Canelli, a classic zone for Moscato where the Asti method of sparking wine was born.  This wine is gold in color, has hedonistic aromas of grape and moss, and delightful flavors of sweet peach and apricot.

Moscato D'Asti, which is different from Asti, is only slightly fizzy (frizzante) and lower in alcohol, only 5.5%. (Asti is fully sparkling with alcohol 7-9.5%)  It

Summer Whites!

on Sun, 07/21/2013 - 22:52

It is hot, hot, hot!  Cool off with our Summer Whites!  Today we opened a great bottle of a bottle of  Quantum Leap Riesling and a bottle of Paul Hoffman's new "Rock N White" a fume blanc.  We had friends in for dinner and ALL  guests agreed how refreshing and crisp each wine was tonight!  One guest requested we open the Alvinte Albariño- she is a real fan of the pear and said it was DAZZLING!
